How To Enhance The Healthy Level of Self-Esteem Within

When you feel self-doubt and fear of failure, it is time to compassionately connect with your Child Mind

As the year 2023 comes to a close, and celebrations are upon us, do you find yourself hesitant to share good news, accomplishments, or the progress you've made this year at family gatherings? You're not alone. Having worked in the entertainment industry, I often felt inadequate about sharing my achievements, believing that others had more credits and greater success than me.

Due to childhood experiences, such as being compared to siblings or feeling inferior at school, the emotions part of our brain, which I refer to as the Child Mind (develops approximately while we were 0 ~ 6 years old), becomes like the operating system (OS) in our brains. Many people struggle with comparing themselves to others.

While it is inevitable to compare ourselves to others, it is more important to reflect upon how we interpreted situations in our youth and what we did with that information in our adult lives. Two examples could determine the course of one's destiny:

1: Striving for developing one’s potential

This describes a person who, feeling inadequate compared to others, has made efforts to improve themselves and has actually achieved results. If you have been enhancing your abilities, it's beneficial to compassionately connect with your inner child in your heart and send a message, "You are smart and courageous and you are wonderful just as you are”. By repeating affirming these positive statements, you can cultivate self-assurance.

2: Always Thinking, “Because I am like this….”

The person who feels inadequate compared to others and always thinks, "Because I am like this," may not have had many experiences overcoming challenging situations or developing abilities. Consequently, confidence may not have been cultivated. Those who constantly think, "Because I am like this," tend to use it as an excuse for not taking risks or actively caring for themselves. Instead, they use their energy and time to blame themselves, feel down, or envy others. This leads to feeling stuck, stagnant abilities, decreasing confidence, and an increasing struggle with age.

Therefore, it's necessary to tell your inner child, "Being just as you are is not enough. If you want something, then make it as a goal and put in effort, improve your abilities, and go get it for yourself.

When you become more self-reliant, you will feel much better and confident.” Improving oneself reduces dependence on external validation, bringing a sense of freedom and autonomous liberation.

There is a correlation between taking actions for skill improvement and building confidence. You might want to consider using this as a reference when reflecting on yourself.

Wishing you a Happy Holiday Season!
